La storia è questa:

parecchi anni fa due amici argentini mi regalarono un libro di fantascienza a fumetti intitolato “El Eternauta”, sicuri che mi sarebbe piaciuto. Un racconto di circa 400 pagine uscito a striscie tra il 1957 e il 1959 sulla rivista argentina Hora Cero. L’autore della storia è Hector Oesterheld, scrittore di Buenos Aires che fu successivamente partigiano (montonero) durante la dittatura militare e poi desaparecido nel 1977. Il disegnatore è Francisco Solano Lopez.

Il fumetto mi piacque così tanto che negli anni l’ho riletto più volte, alla ricerca di un idea per costruirci sopra qualcosa, una musica, un disco, un concerto, ancora non so.

El eternauta viene considerato a ragione un capolavoro del fumetto mondiale, eppure nessuna produzione cinematografica, locale o internazionale, era mai riuscita a metterlo su pellicola, nonostante numerosi tentativi, finchè Netflix con non pochi problemi di percorso è riuscita a farlo diventare una serie.

Nel frattempo, avevo scovato altri piccoli lavori ispirati a questo fumetto. Uno di questi è un bellissimo cortometraggio di pochi minuti ad opera dei collettivi argentini NOS e Nomad Efx, presentato nel 2014 a Buenos Aires durante una mostra dedicata a El eternauta, all’interno del Tecnopolis Forum.

Ebbene, mi sono divertito ad editare sulle immagini di questo corto alcune tracce tratte da un nuovo lavoro intitolato “Inhale and exhale”, interamente suonate su di un handpan (modello Sela Harmony D-amara) e manipolate attraverso l’elettronica.

The story goes like this:

A few years ago, two Argentinean friends gifted me a science fiction comic book called El Eternauta, a 400-page story originally published in strips between 1957 and 1959 in the magazine Hora Cero. The author, Héctor Oesterheld, was a writer from Buenos Aires who later became a partisan (montonero) during the military dictatorship, and was eventually desaparecido in 1977. The illustrator is Francisco Solano López.

El Eternauta is rightly considered a masterpiece of world comics, yet no film adaptation—local or international—has ever managed to bring it to the screen, despite numerous attempts. In just a few days, however, and after several years in the making, a Netflix series titled The Eternaut will finally be released, an entirely Argentinean production.

In the meantime, I’ve come across a few small works inspired by this comic. One of them is a short film—just a few minutes long—created by the Argentinean collectives NOS and Nomad Efx, titled "Huellas de una invasion". It was presented in 2014 in Buenos Aires during an exhibition dedicated to El Eternauta, held at the Tecnópolis Forum.

I had fun editing some tracks from my upcoming album Inhale and Exhale—entirely performed on a handpan (Sela Harmony D-Amara model) and manipulated through electronics—over the images of this short film.
